what's the different from a W124 250D (601 engine) and a W202 C220 D (604 engine)

I have an 87' 250D 602 diesel engine. 2.5 liter 5 cylinders. I am thinking of getting a 1994 C220 Diesel (604 engine).

Does anyone know the factory Horsepower of these 2 cars? I want to know if the C220D is as powerful as the 1987 250D.

Also compared to the W202 C250 Diesel?

Thanks!

Hummer,

If memory serves, the 602 engine puts out 121 hp and 165 pounds of torque at 2400 rpms. In the U.S., the engine was put in the 300D 2.5Turbo and sold between 1990 and 1993.

Am not familiar with the 604 engine since I don't believe it was sold in North America (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

OM602 is rated at 90hp, OM602 turbo is rated at 125hp. An 87 250D does 0-100km/h in 16.2sec, turbo in 12.3sec.

OM604 is rated at 95hp, OM605 is rated at 113hp. The C220(D) is does 0-100km/h in 16.3 sec, the C250(D) in 14.8sec.

Torque specs changed over the years; max in the 80s, rpm range of 90% (or something like that) torque in the 90s. Suffice it to say the new engines produce more torque.

hp ratings in DIN, accelerations times for 5-speed.

All according to Nitske.

Thanks for the reply guys! I thought that I was going to get less power on my SOON! C220 Diesel compared to my W124 250D.

Engines do get more efficient over the years! I'm excited to get my C220 Diesel!

Any C220 owners here? Just want to know that common problems to look out for.

Thanks!

Francis
