Tranny Slipping 82 300D

Ok guys, here's the problem.

Out of the blue, the tranny started slipping taking off from a dead stop. Once the vehicle is in motion, the transmission shifts normaly up and down through the gears until coming again to a complete stop. When stopped, you can feather the throttle and it will catch and allow you to s l o w l y take off.

Fluid is on the hi mark and clean. Car has 157k on it. Today, I added a bit of Lucas Tranny Fix to it and it helped some. Taking off, the tranny would catch and shudder until rolling then everything was as normal.

Talked to my local Benz mechanic [sic] about changing the B2 Piston and modulator and was informed he only puts in rebuilt units as working on one is too hard.

So any suggestions? B2 piston, mod valve, oil filer change?

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago (9000 km. into the rebuilt tranny). The tranny servo piston went and was replaced. The car runs fine now. BTW, I'm assuming that your tranny is the same as in my 84 300DT.

Tranny Servo Piston? That's a new one on me. I'm not sure if the tranny's are the same or not. The probelm I'm running into is no one around here wants to do any real mekanickin [sic] The want to stick a rebuilt unit in and call it done!

I am not usually one to recommend "snake oils," but I have read a lot of positive talk on this page about a product called TransX. It might be worth a shot if you are considering major mechanical work.

Thanks SLo Mo....Put some Lucas Trans Fix in it yesterday to get home. Helped some as the band sems to grab now. Need to Doctor it up and sell the damn thing. Bad thing being here on the border. We have a Benz dealer in Laredo @$76.00 an hour who does repairs their way, not the customers and one independent that is too damn lazy to repair the problem, only swap parts. Higer profit margin I guess @ $50 an hour. Nearest Benz dealer in Mexico is in Monterrey which is 140 miles south of me and I can't get away to go and really don't want to without knowing the extent of the problem. Down here, they see a gringo in a Benz and they see $$$$

Tranny Slippig

No, it's not flaring. I've done extensive searches on this. It doesn't want to take off from a stop but once rolling, it shifts with no problem. But once you stop, you keep your fingers crossed. A real ***** crossing the border down here with the lines and all!

Have you done a search here under "flaring" ?

You may be talking about a different issue, but I went through this with a 300DT and did a bunch of research. You should see it under my threads .... "diesel don"

You make me laugh with your border stories. We cross at Laredo twice a year on our way to Torreon where we work with 18 churches. I can't stand the humidity and heat on the border and the lines.....stinkin lines everywhere. And all of them are about 3 hours long. How do you do it?

quiere dinero?

I'm open to offers amigo. I'd like at least $1000.00 out of it. Got a low mileage engine, 4 new tires, New Bosch alternator and an additional compressor and dryer for it and a new pad for the hood.

I need a van or Suburban for the work I do down here for Mexico Aid.org That is much more important than keeping my hooby alive.

Diesel Don;

Not much of a problem The lines you learn to work around them or deal with them. The weather is great with 4 big A/C units cooling the house. Since you've been here you can answer for yourself why. The people, the society, the respect amongst the populace. Hell, last month the Mayor suspended the entire Police force, 220 strong because of corruption. For a month we had no LE on the streets to speal of. Did we have anarchy, raping, looting, robbery? Not a one. That speaks well for a wonderful society.

Ya'll let me know. My e-mail is pcorn54@nld.cybercable.net.mx
