Is a 240D tranny gearcase crack common?

MB Mechanic said they did and I was just wondering if that was something that was common or not?

He suspects this because of an oil leak, here is the link to his other thread. IMO unless you plan on doing the tranny work yourself it would be cheapest to just put a used tranny in and risk it doing the same rather than rebuilding the front & rear seals, TC or welding the housing, maybe it is just me though.
