I have never changed this filter and after taking a look have decided that I have some questions.
Is the filter at the bottom of pump, therefore not visable when fluid level is full? Also which fluid line is the return? I would like to flush fluid and change the filter on my 1981 300SD. Also I have discovered a vacume line that has been disconnected, it leaves the firewall, below the brake vacume assist and leads over towards the heater monovalve but ends without connecting to anything. Does anyone know where/what this line should connect to? As always thanks for any help, Mike. |

You will need to remove all the fluid from the reservoir and you will then be able to see the filter. Use needle nose pliers to take it out. I don't remember if there is anything to unscrew to remove it or not but I don't believe there is. It should lift straight up. Unless you are having some problems with your power steering I would recommend against removing any hoses for bleeding/changing. I just change the power steering fluid about three or four times over a course of a few days.
I would guess that the vacuum line is from the overboost protection circuit that is no longer there. Do a searcy at the top of the page and there is alot written about it.
