It's an aftermarket in-line diesel fuel filter. They cost about $1.25 and are made by Knecht or Mahle of Germany. Performance MB in California sells them. The O.E. filters from a dealership are white opaque-kind of senseless since you can't tell if they're contaminated at all nor what with. I always ask my dealer for the transparent in-line filters.
