swapping a gas engine for a 617??

I got a Euro 230e last fall, 4 speed stick, 225,000 miles. Now I have the opportunity to get a 617 non turbo with 129,000 miles on it - supposed to have been well maintained. The engine is already out of the car.
I have followed several threads about swapping an auto tranny for a manual, but what about putting a diesel in what was a gas car? Anyone done it? can I just rig up a fused switch for the glow plugs? anything else I would want to watch out for?
thanks.
