air popping sound when car is jacking up

Hi
Over the week end , I was inspecting rear brake pads on my 1985 300D Turbo.
While the rear end was jacking up, I heard some kind of air popping sound at certain height. Is it normal or something need to be replaced. The shock absorbers have never been replaced. They are the originals. Could they be bad or something else?
