would that attibute to the low end power? and the smoke?

The TC is more of a job but not that hard, however I think you need to sort out the (IMO anyway) timing problem. Your TC may well need changing but it wouldn't all of a sudden start causing you this problem. This would be a good time to check for stretch using a dial indicator, or at least check it at the timing marks. There is plenty in the archives under checking TC stretch. Wait some but if you dont get more feedback repost as driving the car might not be good idea. One of the members here was out one tooth and he had valve imprints on top of the pistons. The car ran but not well. The smoke and low power would point to timing
