Some of the issues with the TD that the D and SD don't face?

I thought I read someplace the rear had some kind of special leveler or something... I don't know...

Basically, all I'm looking to find out is what issues do the wagons have that the regular 300D do not...

Thanks.

The basic rules if your are looking at a possible car to buy are these:

1: Nice ride- Good.
2: Bouncy/Hard ride: Bad
3: Fluid leaks in the back- Bad.
4: (Look in the hydraulic tank) Clear/cream color fluid- Good. Brown/Grey/Black fluid- BAD.

If even one of these things are bad, pass on it. Except for the hydraulic accumulators, everything about this suspension system is very big $$$

Leaks are easy to find. It's a different color and texture than engine oil, gear lube, or diesel.

The accumulators and struts have a life span (10 years I think), ask the seller when he/she replaced them and how often (If) they flushed the hydro fluid in the system.

If everything works and is in good condition, go for it! The cargo room and self leveling are far better than a sedan with normal shocks. Plus, you can't beat the coolness of driving a 21 year old station wagon

Oh, I forgot to add. If the ride is bouncy or stiff, don't let them BS you about "Oh, you just need to bleed the system." It is self bleeding and it is the accumulator(s) gone bad. ($100/pr.)

The hydraulic system does the job of shocks and springs although there are coil springs in the mix. I believe the two problems are that there is no equivalent shock that simply slips into place and the coil springs have to be replaced with considerably stiffer springs to hold up the weight of the car. Someone recently posted that he had not seen or heard of a successful decommissioning of the hydraulic system.

Check the archives. It's all been tried.

Not all TDs have the self leveling system. For example, Leathermang's (is it an '80 mod?) TD parts car does not have a SLS.

Do a search on Jassz's posts. She's posted quite abit about the "fun" with a TD suspension system.
