Anyone ever do this?

I was walking out of a Honda dealership today (there on business.. calm down) and there I see this mint white 300SDL sitting parked out front.. obviously privately owned and not for sale by the dealership. It was immaculate with not one ding or scratch on te finish. I peek inside to see pristine burgundy leather. I look at the odometer and it says 90,xxx miles. Right then and there I am about to mess my pants. In a frenzy, I run back to my car, get a piece of srap paper and write..

"Beautiful car!! If you are ever interested in selling it, please give me a call.."

I stick it firmly in the door handle. I doubt I will get a call, but figure it may have been there to be traded in if the owner was shipping for a new car.

I would have waited for the owner, and talked with him/her and gotten a feel for things... you never know!

You know the old saying, "You won't know unless you ask!"

I did that once as well.. LOL. I saw another pristine 300SDL, that time with 64k miles on the clock and at a Mercedes dealership. I waited for the guy and he said his father left it to him and that he would never sell it.

Not the result you want... I knew a guy that did it @ a McDonald's parking lot with an old Caddy... the guy said, he just came from the shop and they *still* couldn't find a coolant leak. He was fed up with GM... my buddy made him an offer, and the deal was done. It was the ugliest green caddy I ever saw, but he loved it. I have a strong dislike for GM and Ford products...

I've never done it, but did find a note like that on my first set of wheels, a '54 Ford pickup many, many moons ago. I saved it for awhile "just in case". The matter was resolved when a guy pulled out in front of me when I was going about 45 mph.

I think that we all have looked at a good looking M/B sitting in a lot somewhere and then tried to crane our necks to check out the odometer. But, to post a note on it would truly require an exceptional vehicle. I have not found one that pristine yet, in the vintage prior to 1987.

I was inspecting a property about 15 years ago and an elderly gent pulled up in an immaculate 1963 Buick Riviera next door. As he got out I walked up and complemented him about his car. The car was in fantastic condition so I said, "If you ever want to sell the car could you please let me know". He answered back by saying that he was at the age that the car was just too big and he was going to get something much smaller. He basically said that he would sell me the car for what a local Honda dealer had offered him since he would rather sell it someone who appreciated it than to someone who would just turn around and make a profit on it.
I drove the car home the next day.

Yes, that one is really a pristine vehicle. I am just afraid that it is going to go stratospheric in price. I think I'll call him tomorrow morning and see if he will sell it off e-bay. You never know when cash is waiting. These dealers are so deathly afraid of deadbeat bidders that they would do anything rather than wait till the end of an auction.

I've turned down three offers now on the '59, and had somebody literally knock on my door to enquire on my truck. I told them that it would be better for them to go buy one new as I would have to replace mine, and would have to charge him enough to do so.

I used to own several Subaru Brats. My dad loved them and swore that if he found a nice one he would buy it. A few years ago we were visiting my sister. WHile taking a back road to her house I spotted one sitting in a back yard. We stopped for the hell of it and talked to the guy. It was in awesome shape! (for early subaru standards) We asked the guy about selling it. A few months later we got the call and made the 4 hour trip to pick it up. He is still driving it.
