300sd Seat Conversion

I have a 1985 300sd with palamino interior. I would like to switch out the rear seat so that I could have rear headrests. Can this be done? Can I use a 380se or something similar with headrests? Will it bolt in? I have removed my seat numerous times, new fuel sender, run stereo wire to trunk, new rear dash etc... I can disassemble them blind folded.

I know that I wouldn't have the electrics but I just want the look etc... Does anyone have a seat for sale or know where I can get one?

I don't know of anyone personally, but I'm sure that SilverStar recycling or PG Auto have some used ones. Try go for a rear seat from a 1986-1988 W126 car - 420SEL, 560SEL, 300SE / SEL. Those ALL came with rear headrests and the seat pattern is the same as on your 85 SD. You might want to get the bottom cushion too - so everything matches.

Usually works best to call them.

Seat patterns are the same.

Except if he has MB tex, and not leather.

I thought '86 was when leather, SRS, and rear headrests all came as standard equipment.

All you need for the manual rear headrests is the channels that screw to the rear of the seatback frame, the grommets that will cover the holes that you'll cut in the upholstery, and the headrests themselves. Check your seatback, but if it's like mine (1984 300SD), the attachment holes in the seatback frame are already there. The whole "kit" for rear headrests used to show up on eBay fairly regularly.

Do you think this would apply to the W123 models? I know the rests were available for my model but it was an option. I've had the back seat out but I didn't notice anything for head rests in the rear seat but I wasn't really looking for them at the time.

I think part # 123 970 01 00 is the channel, grommets, and associated pieces for the add on for the 123. The parts won't be there (unless it had rear headrests at one time), but the screw holes to mount the above "kit" probably are. May be pricey at the dealer, though.

Thanks for the info and part #'s. Just an idea that came to mind when I came across this thread. I'm in no rush.
