Cinderella wants to get hitched so badly she's almost willing to wear a tow bar around town like those Volkswagon beetles used to have. But she's from Jersey. A bit of rust cancer.

Your water leak could be the windshield seal.

The hood hinge drains are a little tricky because there are several of them. I had my 1982 300D over two years before I really found them all and cleaned them out properly. We might be able to get a picture posted that shows where they all are located. For the most part though, I think an overflowing hood hinge drain would not leak on your foot.

More than likely it will be the windshield gasket which has dried, shrunk and become rigid so that it doesn't seal against the glass or the body anymore. Lilly, SWMBO's ride, would leak on your feet whenever you drove her in a heavy rain. All the drains were clean so it was definitely coming from the gasket. Replacing the gasket fixed the problem for us but, there are two approaches to fixing this problem:

1) Purchase replacement gaskets (about $35-55/ea) and take the car to an auto glass shop to have them R&R the glass with the new gaskets installed. Be sure that the glass techs know how to R&R Benz trim and glass. See here: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?threadid=81088&highlight=harmon

or 2) Use a specific 3M sealer as mentioned in this thread:

Good luck!

Jen,

You possess a unique advantage as a female forum participant here, since Mercedes Shop is about 98% male, and the guys are all too eager to help. And of course by "help," I mean "vie for your attention."

Guten tag!

Believe it or not, the reason I drive a benz is because it is far cheaper than getting a new car every few years or so. There are other reasons as well.
-the design does not seem to get old
-i 'feel' the bulk of the steel protects more than an airbag in a kia
-there's a lot of room in the engine area under the hood
-a full-sized tabletop fits in the trunk
-i like the giant steering wheel. have you seen a honda steering wheel? it looks like a go-cart's

My mom does not care that the car did not come from Munich.
She's from Munich but my Dad's from Edinborough. What a combination, huh?

You guys are fun to talk to. gotta go. patient waiting.

Close enough, Munich to Stuttgart is only 117 miles (188kM ;-)

To say that these cars are robust is an understatement. A cursory trip through a boneyard will reveal many W123 chassis that have received significant blows as the result of a collision yet will still permit the adjacent doors to be opened and shut almost as if nothing had ever happened.

The donor of my 4spd manual transmission was sitting underneath another W123...with all of its doors open and the windshield glass still intact.

But we do need a picture of your car for our files And,well, if you just happen to be standing next to the car, well, er, that's ok too.

Everybody already here knows that the Mercedesshop.com dating service and Mercedes-Benz™ relationship hotline is over in the Open Forum.

LOL
Believe me, your safe with at least me. I'm old enough to be your dad, from what I guess your age range is. (Can't speak for the others here)

But seriously, it's always fun to see each others car. We've had a few threads that are just for posting pix of your pride-n-joy. So a newbie is always "expected" to show off his/her Benz.
