That's an interesting article. It seems like they didn't consider the soot's ability to block sunlight when it's suspended in the air. That might compensate for some of the reduction in sunlight reflectance of snow. What I find ironic is the Bush administration's anti-diesel stance while at the same time they're shielding gas-guzzling SUV's and pickups from tougher fuel economy standards, and rejecting the Kyoto protocol. But the article is only talking about limiting heavy-duty diesel emissions, and I'm all for that. Light-duty diesels like our cars are not that bad.

Well...., that's just great. Now they lump Biofuels into the contributing offenders. Just can't win.

"Top NASA scientists..."

Since when has NASA become the enviro-police ? No disrespect meant for those poor souls that lost their lives, but I think NASA should spend less time fussing about our fine diesel engines and work on whatever it takes to keep from scattering shuttle parts all over the countryside !

And how about that SHUTTLE ?!!! When that thing went off, it looked like some serious "tail pipe emissions" to me ! I wonder how much "soot" that thing put out ? If the shuttle ever goes again, perhaps a LARGE trap-oxidizer would help with all the pollution THEY have been causing !

I feel better now.

diesel soot

"The snow and ice can't reflect sunlight", Give me a break! What about all the 747s and military jets up there blowing out 3000 gallons of fuel per hour of flight?
