300D Turbo in a 240D??

Is this a feasible swap?

Am thinking of picking up the 240D, pulling the engine (with ony 136k on it) and stuffing in a 300D turbo junkyard engine.

Or..., should I just wait and pick up a 300D at some other point?

This 240 is in really nice shape and I hate to see it go, but.....

Sure it is, Diesel Don just finished up his conversion a month or so ago. It ended up being a 5cyl, 4spd, 240D.

Feasible? Absolutely. Worth it? Absolutely. The purists might get upset that you are pulling a perfectly good 240 motor though.... Depends on the 240 too. Best swap candidate would have no power windows, no sunroof and stick shift. This would be the lightest weight 123 with the most powerful motor. If ever there was a diesel hotrod this would be a good start. RT

RT is correct.. plus if you can get one like a 1980 with the ' manual ac control' that would really be the cat's meow....
What are you going to do with the 240 engine ?
Where is BFE anyway ?

The car is a '79, so it's a manual AC/heat control. Manual windows, no sunroof. Auto, but have a 4spd sitting under a tarp in the driveway I'd put in.

Bum F**k Everywhere. Currently Colorado.

This is a relatively easy swap. As it was my first, its sure easier to say it in hindsight, but if you're handy at all, its straight forward.

In addition to being easy, it was very enjoyable in the sense that I didn't NEED to do it.....rather, I got to do it without time demands.

Lots of threads on two or three related challenges.

Probably sell since it's a relatively low mileage engine.
