1983 300D Steering box Adjustment Procedure

Hi,

Can someone in the know please post the procedure in detail on how to adjust the steering box on the 1983 Mercedes 300D?

I've got a good deal of play in the steering wheel (about a good inch). I've noticed that there is a good deal of play between the steering column linkage and the gear box. I've had the tie rods replaced professionally. The tires are wearing very evenly and I installed new bilstein shocks a year ago. So I'm thinking that it really is a steering box issue.

I've seen so many conflicting methods on this that I'm afraid to do what is probably a very simple procedure.

Thanks.
