"use cover with # "100" only????
On my 83 TD fan shroud is a sticker that reads the above. What does that mean? Just curious. Thanks Mike

I always wondered the same. I kind of guessed that #100 was some sort of product or reference number for the correct antifreeze concoction, as MB is picky and has their own stuff.
But that was just my silly guess, no backing for it.. Cant wait to find out though JMH

I may be wrong, but I have noticed that on my various MB cars, the number that it says to use on the fan shroud matches the number on the radiator/filler cap.

Yes, the number corresponds to the coolant reservoir cap. The parts are often superceeded, so you should check on the cap that MB specifies now for your car. THe stickers refer to the cap when the vehicle was manufactured.
For example, my car says use cap 120 only. MB now wants the 190D's from 84 to use the 140 cap.

AS noted the "100" means 1 bar of pressure = 14.7lbs sqin pressure.

Try this: The MB rad cap is the same style/design as caps used on some US vehicles. I walked into the local McParts and matched up my MB cap with a Stant cap. Since Stant, etc. make caps in a range of pressures, 7,11,13,etc. psi in each cap size range you can choose the pressure you would like to have. I chose a 7psi cap. Lowering the pressure lowers the boiling point so if the car is prone to boiling over then lowering the pressure is not a good idea. My car runs the same temp, winter, summer, etc. I choose to use the 7psi cap as I believe that less pressure on a 20yr old cooling system is a good thing. RT
