Greetings.

My #8 fuse (like everyone elses) has melted/overheated at some point. It still works, but I'm pretty sure it's responsible for some strange blower motor problems I've been having. I bought a Mercedes "repair kit", which basically consists of hard wiring a new 30 amp fuse in. My questions are:

1. Has anyone ever installed one of these?

2. How do you remove the fuse panel, so that I can get to
the back of the #8 fuse?

Yes.

This was a real easy fix on the 126, took all of about 15 minutes working in the dark. Had you tried the search function? Not sure how the fuse box is laid out in a 123, but assuming it is under the hood like the 126. Lift and remove the box lid. Along the front (leading) end of the fuse panel should be two phillips head screws, remove them. Lift the fuse panel from the box. At the front wall of the box you should see an insert panel, maybe two that make up the front wall, lift them out. Carefully feed both lead of the repair through the false wall then through one of the rubber inserts that make the front wall of the box. Attach the wire ends to the bottom of the target fuse and reassemble.

Working from fuzzy memory here, plus the directions are for a 126. Hopefully it is close enough to get you through. The wires on the 126 are white/green or pink/green can't recall for sure but the wire color matched exactly with the wire color of the repair fuse leads.
