Post Link to copy of 190D-2.2 Brochure (1984)

Hi,

I posted the original 25-page color sales brochure for my 1984 190D-2.2 on the web. The quality of the photos I took isn't super-amazing, but they're readable. There is some interesting information in the brochure - it sounds like the car was technologically quite impressive at the time it was made (or at least that's what they want you to believe!).

You can get to it from:
http://www3.telus.net/cornblatt/mercedes/index.htm

Happy reading!

Really neat, I hope my brother gets one of those for his first car... Except the front of the car picture on page 20 looks amazingly like a 'k car' of similar vintage.

OUCH, the k car comment really hurts.

I love the 190's (I have a 123 and a 126) but I love the 201.

Its in the high single digits here, my car has been outside for 10 hours. Yet, even at 376,000 (all original), it takes only one small click of the key to get her going.

Not too shabby.

No, I still LOVE those cars... From when I was in about 5th grade, I dreamed of having a 190E 2.3, because I always saw a dark blue one. When my love for diesels took over, well now it has to be a 190D. They have great lines, it was just those square sealed beams and the color, which reminded me of my cousins plymouth...

No harm intended though by the comment... it just really struck me.

K-car!?! How insulting... What makes it worse is that I have *exactly* the same car as the one shown in the picture that prompted the comment...

I can't say that I disagree though - I think the front view of the early-model 190s is their least attractive angle. Plus, the lighting from these headlamps is not very good anyway... I would like to get a set of European headlamps (or even the later 1987-1993 North American ones), but I can't find a reasonably-priced source for them.

Overall, I'm really happy with the car (I've had it for about 6 months). The reasons I chose it were:
1) It's a very, very uncommon vehicle - I live in a city with 1 million people and I've never seen another 190D. I only see 190Es maybe twice a month. I hate the thought of having the same car as everyone else.
2) It's simple and easy to work on.
3) It's small but still a nice car. There's a surprising amount of interior room (as long as you're the red guy in the front!), good features, small turning radius, great handling.
4) Economy! So far, I have been getting 37-40mpg on the highway, and 33-35mpg in the city. The worst ever has been 32mpg, when it was -5 to -10°F for a week.
5) Longevity - I've heard of many of these cars with over 350,000 miles on them! Quite impressive...

I was initially worried about cold-weather starting (everyone said "oh, it's a diesel, I guess you have to plug it in all winter"), but we put in Mobil 1 synthetic oil, and the car has started fine down to -8°F (-22°C) without having to use the block heater (it hasn't been colder than that yet this winter).

I'm also pleased with the overall quality of the car - there are no major squeaks or rattles, nothing is falling apart, everything is tight and fits together well, and the interior generally looks like new (but it's 20 years old!). The cracked dash is my only complaint.

It isn't the quickest car ever (the 0-60 time is almost triple that of my other car!) but with the 5-speed, it's definitely adequate for everyday driving.

I could not agree with you more.

The auto 2.2 and even the auto 2.5 are quite slow. The manual 2.2 is, while not quick, at least spirited.

Also, I do not know any other MB from the 60x's or the 61x's in the US that could get in the 40 mpg area (I have gotten as high as 46 mpg). Interestingly, the 46 mpg happened when the car had about 300,000 MILES. I still drive it hundreds of miles a week in a real 4 season location.

Cannot say enough about these cars. (again, i do not want to start a 60x v. 61x debate or a 201 v. 124 v. 123 v. 126 v. 116 debate, but I do like it more than my 123 or my 126 617's).

That brochure is great! I've read it all already! I would like to drive a manual 190D 2.2 to see how it compares to mine... but I feel the auto is just fine. I wish it was a 2.5T at times, but filling up I can't be happier that it's a small engine!

The brochure seemed to have lots of emphasis on the handling. I agree totally that this car handles so well. You would think it's a sports car around the corners.
