92 300D 2.5 gas gauge wacko

Gas gauge registers correct after driving a while.

When first started, the needle shows higher level than is in the tank.

Example) Driving guage showed almost on reserve. I stopped, restarted the car and it showed 1/2 full. The reserve light was on.

After about 10 min. the gauge moved down to the proper place.

WHY?

Thank you

Nick Mendoza

Excellent! What seems to be your problem? You run on reserve, you only need to restart the car twice and you have a full tank! I wish I had a system like that. When I run on reserve I have to refill the car instead of only having to restart it

I do fil it to the top and clink it to fill...

The tank was at 1/2 tank for about one week.

I was not aware about the overflow tank. I will only fill it up to the first click.

After a while it does register at normal level. Does anyone out there have this problem?

Thank you
