I bought it!

I know not a diesel, but you gotta love those hubcaps:

Any advise/feedback would REALLY be appreciated as I work to get her back on her feet!

Time for a crash course in analog electronic fuel injection. Probably needs a new engine harness, judging from what the seller says. Congrats and Good luck, keep us posted.

Congrats on the purchase. I sincerely hope yours goes better than Justin Bowsers. His posts are in the Vintage section, and the first one about the W116 is here. You can then use the "Search" button at the bottom of his posts to see the rest of them.

thanks all

You see my investment in the car..it's pretty low. we'll just have to see! Think/hope I can make it from Cumming, GA back to Greenville, SC.

No time to vote tomorrow in the SC primary~! Oh well...

Sounds like one door panel has got to be replaced..hope thats the extent of the rust.

I love my '79 450 SEL. It has mechanical fuel injection. By '79 MB had gone back to that. I have never had a problem with that in the 194,000 mile I have put on it. In vact, I have never had a major problem of any kind with this car. It had about 66,000 on it when I purchased it.

Good luck with yours.

Is every Mercedes owner fat or why are the seats always tilted and down to the floor? This one looks like it has an especially bad driver's seat. Overall it looks nice though. Congrats!

I noticed the seats. Think my quick temporary fix will be some decent sheepskin seat covers I saw at Sam's Club this weekend for $29 each.

Talking

Thanks Jim,

One of the first things I need to do is look for replacement seat springs and horsehair pads. Where do you recommend?

Also got to figure out why the engine sometimes sputters and sounds as if running on only 4-5 cylinders. previous owner pretty much replaced entire ignition system. Myabe something in fuel filter or injection system I suspect.

Give the word and I can be down in W-R, GA anytime!

I had that car on my watch list also. A lot of car for the money !
If the F.I., or whatever the problem is, turns out to be too much hassle, you can always put an "oil burner" in it.

Thanks Brad--we will see. Picking it up tomorrow. Guy says don't shut the rngine off til I get home. Seems to sputter badly if it runs, is shut off, then started again.

He said in the am, it iwll start and idle/run very smoothly..
