Doors and trunk and filler cap will not open...and I hear the pump operating (in trunk). Also NEW roughness at idle. Your help would be appreciated.

On an SD, the doors, the trunk and fuel door is supplied vacuum from the pump located in the spare tire well.

The transmission, transmission vacuum controls, power brakes, engine shut down and climate control are supplied vacuum from the pump mounted on the engine.

You need a vacuum gauge or mity vac to figure out what your issue is, however none of the MB diesel vacuum controls will make the car run rough.

broken vacuum line?

Very possible; a broken or disconnected vacuum line in the engine compartment.
Have you done or had any service done in the last couple of weeks?
Had a MB in for no lock function, broken vacuum line; from carrying childs bicycle in trunk.
There are other tricks; but check the simple stuff first.
Have a great day.
