E-code w123 light upgrade

Hi,

I have purchased a set of bosch E-code H4 7" headlights for my 83 300D. I got the ones with the city lights.

I have heard that a bit of trimming of the headlight surround in behind needs to be done. This is fine, not really a problem, Id just like to know if anyone can suggest from experience the best way to do this.

Thanks,

JMH

I've heard using a lathe would give the best results. I've got the seven inchers, but not with the city lights. Who makes them with the citys? Mine are Bosch. GREAT UPGRADE! Probably the best thing you can do.

I got bosch 7" with city lights. Got them from Daniel Stern lighting. he has been extremely helpful, and definitely is super-knowledgable.
He really doesnt light the hella lights, says that the beam pattern is poor. He is generally a big fan of cibies but they have been really slow in shipping the 7" lights to the US, and so he sent bosch lights, which he likes and says are the same quality in terms of optics and beam properties (the two things that matter) as the Cibie lights.

Mine have a t4w city light in them, which requires slight trim of the ehadlight bucket and a bit of wiring into the parking light circuit.

I cut them out with a wal-mart metal hacksaw. It was a HORRIBLE design in a saw, with the blade supported in the handle then halfway up the blade. If you use the front edge of the saw, it bends (and eventually broke off). SO the cuts are not as smooth as they should be, but it worked well. City lights are just small T4w bulbs that I spliced into the parking light wires by some crimp connections.

Lights work great, but I have to align them correctly still so I get 100% best lighting.

Here's a pic of the modification to the headlight buckets so the city lights fit in correctly.

You can always take a Dremel and smooth things out. I would love to see your lights, if I'm ever back at school (UD) I'll be sure to look you up! I have the Bosch H4s. I'll say this, they rival a BMWs lights as being some of the best! And I'm running standard bulbs!
