DIY page. Introduction to Upper Control Arm Rebuild

Upper Control Arm rebuild page.

Maybe your car is starting to squeak when you hit bumps (mine wasn't caused by the balljoint it actually was these bushings), and/or you've noticed your upper bushing is moving around freely a while ago and did nothing about it and you finally have time to take it apart now. These parts can put up with poor conditions for a while but I don't like to procrastinate anything suspension related. I actually redid most of my front suspension bushings at this same time. If it was rubber and I could replace it without compressing the springs I did. The upper control arms really aren't that expensive to buy new, but if you care to rebuild it then it won't cost hardly anything.

There are four bushings which are pressed into each control arm, two inner and two outer for each control arm. They can be pressed in using a vice and some sockets. I would recommend getting some new sway bar bushings (page not created at this point) at the same time as well. If you are uninstalling the upper control arms it would be wise to replace the boots as well, this is where most of the money went in rebuilding the units. If I recall correctly they retail at $10 per boot.
