Considering parting out 84 300TD

Hi all. I'm considering parting out my 84 300TD turbo.
Body rust and cracking interior pieces make the car not worth repairing. Mechanically the car is sound, it's just ugly.
Do you think it's worthwhile parting out the car? Does it matter that it's a grey market car?
Worthwhile means worth the effort of removing parts, and how much can I reasonably expect?
Thanks in advance.

If you have a place to keep it while taking it apart I say go for it.

What colors are you talking about?

parts for 84 300td

Hi I have the same car except mine is a wagon. Is the interior black vinyl? if so how much would the rear back seat head rests be for the pair? Also what is the front drivers side seat like?

You mean there are 300TDs that aren't wagons?

LMK if you do part it. There's a young lady here in Boulder (the secretary for Boulder Biodiesel) who needs a tranny for her TD (I've heard they're a little different in the wagons than the sedans?)

Just ignore that. Many parts computers have the 300 Turbo Diesel (sedan) abreviated as 300TD (not knowing that is a different model), so don't feel bad.

Since you've only had it a week, maybe you should consider keeping it and at least patching it up to run for a while?

Actually, I'm the one considering parting out the car.

It was repainted grey, and has a navy blue vinyl interior. The body is in poor shape because the previous owner took it with him to Dhaka, Bangladesh, then sent it back here. It sat on the Baltimore docks for a year after that.

I haven't decided to part it out mainly because I have no idea what a ballpark # would be. Assuming most mechanical parts are okay (not sure about bearings or bushings, things like that. Plus I'd have to pull to make sure) can I expect around $1000? $1500? $5000? Thanks for the replies.

I'm slowly and casually trying to find a rear W123 sedan bumper. As time permits.

If yours happens to have good chrome with no chrome peeling, I'd be interested since you are nearby. I've seen them absolutely mint for $95 so my thinking is around $50 for a nice one.

P.S. The car as it sits "might" be worth $1000, parted out. To sell as a unit it sounds like a $400 car. Please don't take offense, I'm using my own cheap standards.

300TD (wagon) parts

I have a 1980 300TD wagon that needs a lens for one of the backup lights. Also the front grille is badly rusted. If you have these in good condition I would be interested. I'm in California.

ken 300d, I bet I have a bumper for you. I will check the one on my carcass and see what the chrome is like, but if I remember correctly, it is in good shape. -andy

Thanks. They tend to have problems with corrosion and peeling in the area of where the exhaust hits them. At least mine are that way.

I was trying to find one without paying for shipping though.
