Angry golfball dent.. :(

Dammit.. Some prick managed to be playing golf in his yard and pop the very center of my sunroof as I was driving by. I now have a nice little dent and a clear impression of two little divitis from a golfball in the paint.

It's about like a hail dent, shallow, but I'll see it every single time I look at the car. Is there any common way to get that out of it?

~sigh~

A dent doctor might be able to pull it out. They typically charge ~$75, at least the mobile one's around here.

I know..

It was pretty loud as you can imagine, but I have a habit of not freaking with stuff like that in cars, check the oil and temp gauges, check to see if it still steers, then find somewhere to stop. I drove back past and what looked like a father and son were both kinda staring at me. It was about dark and I just said to hell with stoping. It's not like this is the only little paint flaw on a twenty year old car with a quarter million miles on it. And truthfully, I just hate confrontation. This is why I need a decent wife..

I could get a sunroof panel from the salvage yard for next to nothing, how hard are they to swap? Worth the bother? I have more time than money..

lietuviai, your a very nice fellow and I thank you. There are not many message boards where a person would bother posting stuff like that..

But, I have the big grey books to and technicaly, I know *how* to do most everything on the car. I was just kinda looking for a "piece of cake" or "don't, nightmare" from someone that's done it a time or two..

I will probibly just get used to it and accept it as a battle scar, first one the car's had since I got it. I think in a way the idea of an old car that looks perfect with low miles is kind of silly sometimes, looking back over all the cars and trucks I've owned, the highest mileage and most beat up have the most fond memories for me somehow..

I'd still like to smack a golfer though..(no offence to any golfer types here, it's a fine, eh, sport.. )

No problem Wolf_Walker. I don't mind going to the trouble if I think I can help someone out in this forum. Many have done the same for me. I just like to "pass it forward".
Maybe you might be able to pop the dent out by removing the headliner. It doesn't look that it's that hard.

I thought about trying to push it out from the inside, I dunno.

This old car has agrivated me so much and has so many little things wrong on it I've just about decided it would be a great parts car, and the motor and trans would look really nice in an SD.
Bet I can find one cheap with a dead drivetrain if I look long enough..

I wish I had taken some body work classes back in tech school..

My very good friend works as Dr. Ding in these parts. I ave seen what he can do. I don' t think that is possible unless you remove the roof. You need to be able to access the rear of the panel with no obstructions. Good luck. I'd kill the golfers.

The underside of the panel does not always have to be accessible. There is a guy here, Rich at Fixxadent, who could get that out. $75 is about right. It's pretty amazing what they do.

You and me both. I had some similar thoughts about my car except I was thinking about parting mine out and then having some fun by borrowing my neigbors tractor and flattening the carcass with it. I've come to my senses since then.

Dent:

First the Dent Doctor do some great things.
I have also hear or guy's using Dry Ice and to pop them out. Might try a google search on dent removal.
Look on the bright side if the roof would have been open you would look like an Eastern Indian with a red spot on your head.
And your method of not getting in their rear is best. Then you would just have another problem.
Good Luck.
Charlie
