I`ve got a 81. Nice looking car. Has a few leaks ,oil and power steering pump. Annoying rattle coming from rear of car ,sounds like doors aren`t closed. Other then that it`s a really nice car looks very classy, motor runs good 217,000 paid 2,000 for it. anyone know old for new?

1979 300SD, brown with euro lights. Chassis just turned 400k miles a couple of weeks ago. Motor was replaced and has about 150k on it.

Motor is great, working my way through mechanical restoration and trying to get my fuel economy back up.

It was running about 17mpg when I bought her, now around 22mpg. I'm looking for those elusive extra mpgs!

Sparky

I've a 1983 300SD - aka- SPARKY --A name given it because about 15 min after its purchase, an electrical fire started under the cigarette lighter and singed some of the insulation.....causing a smoke cloud in the interior on a freeway doing about 80 mph. No real damage done, but was sure excitin' there for a while.

Regards

Run-Em

I've got an 82SD 'Sadie' with 66k miles. It's what was referred to as a 'creampuff' back in the day.

I've got the 83 in my sig, and an 84 sitting at a friends house waiting to be brought back to life.

About the only problems I've had are dead batteries (one), dead starters (two, both from AutoZone {never again!!}), and the seat adjustment on the drivers side flaking out every so often (opening and shutting the door usually fixes it).

186k new Bosch starter, right side windows don't work. Left windows sometimes don't work, I think it's the relay. Burns oil too. Moby Dick. Love the ride. Daily driver.

Sorry, but I have to report one less 300SD on the road. I had to junk my '79 300SD because it was rusted so bad it wouldn't pass inspection anymore.

I am keeping it for parts for the other 2 300SDs I have.

My 82 SD driver has terrible condition leather seats, and a sagging rear valence. it seems to eat glow plugs like candy, (anybody wanna loan me a GP reamer?) starts fine in any temp, but chuggs at first when cold when a plug or two has failed. odometer is bad, turn signals are a continuous buzzer, radio is out, and I don't wanna hack up the wires to put in an aftermarket, so I am working on cannibalizing the oem Becker to build adapters for the aftermarket stereo. the sunroof is frozen shut, and it leaks drips of water into the trunk, the rear window seal is cracked, but not leaking. the paint is oxidized through the clear coat, otherwise perfect paint, and no rust!

83 300sd 461000 miles

Grey outside, grey inside. A Cali car all it's long life. I'm the 3rd owner. This list keeps it on the road. And parts from Fastlane.
