If there's a forum member in the Chicago area, it might be worth while to check the car out and take it for a drive and inspect it for rust out.
At this point considering the amount of time the car has spent just sitting around I think its only worth whatever a used engine with low mileage is worth and whatever extra an interior would fetch. I noticed a few other areas of rust bubbling through in the photos. Imagine what rust the car has that you can't see. Download the photos and lighten them up with a photo editting program. You'll see what I'm talking about.

I suppose it IS possible that the miles are authentic, however given the body rust and faded gauge needles, I suspect that at the very least, it has spent much of it's life outside and has probably had little in the way of regular (if any) maintenance. (Old, dried rubber gaskets, and just HOW OLD is that oil in the pan??!!!)

I bought a true 28,000 mile 240d on E-Bay last summer from a 100% positive feedback seller (150+ sales), and it was TRULY a museum piece. If this guy didn't have zero feedback, I MIGHT give him the benefit of the doubt. However, I say look elsewhere...a higher mileage car with documented history is a better deal in my book.

Just so you guys know. I've emailed this guy and am waiting for him to let me know when I can come over and look at the car. I'm in the Chicago area. Maybe it's a gem in the rough. Anyway it's worth a drive over to check it out-if he gets back to me......
