5 speed transmission swap

i'm wondering if 5 speed transmission from1985 gasoline 280 will work in 1981-85 300 turbodeisel

Well..., if I EVER see one in a yard that I can pull, I will and do a match up. I would LOVE to have a 5 speed. Don't know how many times I'm driving along and pull out of 4th to go to 5th only to find it not there and go back into 4th.

I can't totally confirm this, but was told by multiple people that gas and diesel transmissions within the same series will indeed interchange, but don't forget to get the adapter plate that bolts to the engine and then bolts to the transmission. You also will have to fabricate a pilot bearing if you are mating it with an engine that originally had an automatic.

Good luck, a five speed is a great addition to a 123 diesel.

Yeah, I forgot to pull the adapter on the 240 I pulled an old style tranny out of, now I have to go back and hope it's still there.
