The evolution of the head rest
Hey all, quick question. What year did MB switch from the funky U-curve topped head rests to the simple rounded ones? I am curious because mine has the older style, and just yesterday I saw two other 240s that looked identical otherwise, but had the rounded head rests.

All right, I lied. The other two 240s were not identical to mine. Mine looks a heck of a lot better than either of them. I had to get that off my chest. Phew! That feels good.

MB was experimenting with the rounded headrests as early as 1959 or 60 in tests, but they had no headrests in their cars until around 1963 with some headrests in the rear of the W100 600 Pullman using the U-curved headrests. They switched from the U-curved to the rounded out headrests around 1979 with the introduction of the W126, although the W100 used the U-curved ones until the end of production in 1981. Interesting fact, in 1980, MB was using both styles of headrests. So by 1982, all MBs were using the rounded out headrests, and used them until 2002 with the last W210s.
