Smile New Addition

Well, I bought a 'new' MB yesterday.

Its raining today so will take more pictures tomorrow, but thats the whole
fleet of cars I've got! The pickup was my first vehicle, bought the white
SD in Jan of '03 and the blue SD was bought yesterday.

Paid $3800, which was too much I know, but the car is in fabulous
condition minus the seats. The car was owned by an ER doctor (seriously)
for the past 1.5 years or so and he spent some good money getting it up to snuff
and keeping it in tip top shape.

GOOD:

--ACC is fully functional, am unsure about all the vac pods, but the big
$$ items all work (compressor, holds a charge, ACC servo (new past year)
--Has new Michelen tires (Radial Plus?? can't see any other name)
--Body is very very nice shape One small bit of surface rust, jack points
are clean
--Paint is my preferred color and is in good shape. Only paint chips
right above the headlights from bugs and whatnot.
--Trunk liners are intact, clean and not deformed (big change from the
white car)
--Cruise control works, no surging or anything (it gets tempermental when
you do decellerate on the stalk, etc)
--Proper radio antenna that works
--Original chrome windshield wipers (what the blades go in, not the arms)
--Rear glass isn't seperating
--All the window regulators work
--****QUIET**** engine and wind noise at speed
--*Perfectly* functioning/sealing sunroof
--Very little play in steering wheel
--Chrome looks in remarkably good condition
--Only takes a pinky to open/close doors!
--Jenn likes it!!! (very impressed on that one)

BAD:

--The seats outright suck. All of them. The white SD (which has cancer)
has seats that are in quite good shape, so it is going to be donating them.
--No instrument lights
--Instrument cluster needles need paint
--Wood has a few light cracks
--Carpet is average
--US headlights (white SD will swap)
--Tranny snaps necks... didn't realize shifts could be that hard!
--Kickdown system dead...
--Accelerator Pedal has an inch of dead travel initially
--Door locks have a fairly fast leak (white car can hold for a
week..swap!)
--Fuel door area doesn't drain
--CV boots are starting to look iffy
--Its as much of a slug as the white car, 17 sec 0-60, while Jim F. can
get 10-11. This should be adjustments on both cars.
--Speedo reads 5pmh low, white reads 5mph high, just can't win here
--Dash is cracked (anyone ever see a non-cracked blue dash though?)
--Aforementioned rust spot

I'm mostly happy with it, but I'll be much much happier with it when I get
the new driver seat and that one inch of dead play out of the pedal... it
feels like I can't floor it! It is simply amazing how quiet this car is
compared to my other SD. WOT 5000 rpm in 3rd is about 1/3 to 1/4 as loud
as the white car. I'm also very happy with how the car looks. I've
always liked dark blue vehicles and have always wanted to repaint the
white SD to blue, but I just bought another one instead!! Not to mention
that there is nowhere near as much crap wrong with the paint on the blue
car!

Thanks guys for making these cars so affordable (once you buy them anyway
!!!

Best of luck with your Diesel(s)!!
