79' 300D for sale...
I was just crusing around when I spotted a gorgeous 79' 300D, Black with creamy interior.
The man was asking $3,000 for it. He said 100K miles. Its a suburb area so I can imagine he keeps it maintained with the dealer. Is this price good. or is it like a little to much for my blood? Very nice interior and exterior... I did not take it for a test drive yet, but if it runs very good then what should I do. what is the most you people would pay for sucha viechel...? thanks--- |

These W116 300SD's are way faster than W126 300SD's from a stop. A well-maintained W116 300SD and low mileage (like 100KMiles) may get as much as $6K in some areas. One of the members here (acastell) bought one with 120KMiles for $8.5 K AFAIR. In his case, I think it was somewhat overpriced.

He is referring to a w123 chasis. Acastell's was expensive because of it's literally perfect condition and the man that sold it really knew his stuff. Just about EVERYTHING on that car has been replaced such as rear seat cushion. The man who sold it even wanted to pay to out shocks on it AFTER he sold it becasue he didn't knwo when they were last replaced and he thought they might need freshened up. It aslo only had 120k miles, which makes it rare.
Thanks David

There's a big difference between a 79 300d and a 79300sd. The sd is turbo, the d is not( I believe)
I have both a turbo and a non-turbo and live in Denver. I would not purchase a non-turbo for high mountain driving. Either way, the price is not out of line if the mileage is correct and confirmed with records.

Oops, sorry. A busy work day has made me feel tired and absent-minded. Somehow I saw a "S" in 300D

Fair market value is tough to pin point. In my case, as you read above, the money I paid for the car seemed in line with my emotional attachment for the car and the relative value to other W116 SDs I looked at.
All that said, I am selling the car....I purchased a 240D a while ago and the SD sits. I prefer the basic stance of the 240D. A past post lambasts my decision, but I am sticking to it. I have not posted my car, it is simply for sale 'in my mind'. I plan to market the car shortly. If anyone is intested, I am willing to sell for a lower price that what I paid. I am into the car for about 10K. I will sell for thousands below this as I purchased the 240D for a VERY good price. Net, net...my total cost of ownership for my Mercedes Diesel is within my comfort level. AC

It's funny, everyone on this site always says the cheapest MB is the most expensive. Everyone always tellin' how these cars are undervalued, too.
Then someone buys one which is mint and needs nothing, and he hears he paid too much. I say Acastell did well with that SD.
