Searching for 300d auto tranny for my 240

Hello,
I recently bought a 1981 240d w/ a bad motor off EBay last week. I have since pulled the bad motor and put in a motor of unknown condition from a local shop that the guy said "had a miss" but wasn't sure as it had been sitting for a few years. I installed that motor and it didn't have a miss, it had a rod knock. so...
Out came the 4cyl motor and I am about to drop in my 5cyl turbo that I have started and it runs perfectly. I decided to try to go that route becuase I thought it would be better for driveability and easier to find a 300 tranny and maybe rear-end.
My question is if anyone has a 300d tranny, either of the 722.3 or 722.4 variety? I'm also looking for the driveshaft, bowden cable, linkage and crossmember. I am willing to pay good money and drive pretty darn far to get it. I live in Meridian, MS and would drive up to 800 miles each way to pick this conversion stuff up.
Thanks, Adam Bush

Hey Adam:

I'm having trouble finding tranny's as well. I have two used ones but each has its own issues. One was slipping before the car was rear ended and totalled (I drove it for 15k without vacuum and got used to it). The other was shifting wierd and I'm not sure if it was vacuum related or if the discs were going.
I'm sure you don't want to drive to MI but in case you're up this way, you are welcome to tear away at either one, including the driveshafts. I need one of the differentials but the other is available.
All of that would be free for the taking but you'd have to do the labor.
I have a buddy 5 miles down the road and you are guaranteed to find what you need there but it'll cost you. He was going to charge me $350 - 400 for a good tranny. He has 26 MB's in various shapes and sizes.

However, I think you'll find business closer to home somehow.

Don

Don,
Thanks so much for the offer. I do need to make some calls locally, but these cars are becomming harder and harder to get parts for. Timing is everything it seems - just like how I stumbled upon this car with a great body, no rust for 100 bucks, but just needs a motor.
I wonder if I can use the 240 tranny behind that 5 cyl turbo...
Thanks again,
Adam
