Battery light question? Also some other light questions?

When I turn they key off the battery light flashes for a second, is this normal? I just put a new MB battery in it last week!

Are the push buttons for the climate control supposed to have a light? I took the car for a drive tonight and they are kind of hard to see.

The car is a 1987 300SDL

Btw I love this thing!! It is so much fun to drive, I have only put 30mi on the Toyota this week. I am a MB diesel convert, now if I can just talk my dad into a W140!

The battery light flashes for less than a second in my 1984 300SD. I believe that's normal. As long as it doesn't stay on for long before it goes off.

The push buttons for the climate control ARE supposed to come on with all the lights on - whenever the instrument cluster lights come on.

Great that you love your car. I totally love those SDLs. In fact, I wish I found a good one when I was looking for an MB diesel. I those six extra inches do make a huge difference in the overall appearance of the vehicle. That longer body just looks 1000 times better than mine.

Yeah, but a 1934 300SD probably has a humongous 6-volt battery!!

Yes, the battery in that 1934 was not only six volt and HUGE, but also had a swastika on it.

Have a great day,

I made a typo in my post... I meant to say my 1984 300SD.

I believe both LarryBible and Lycoming-8 knew I made a typo there. The first diesel car in the world was the 1936 Mercedes-Benz 240D. So I couldn't be having a 1934 diesel!

One more light question. Is the light build that lights the shifter surrond a special bulb? I'm not sure how to remove it from its socket? Help!

Darn, Richard we really thought you had a valuable pre-production car there. And yes the first MB diesel would have been about 1936, but the info I have seen indicates that the model number was 260-D.

On the earlier cars, 123's, there is a central bulb mounted down in the console which has fiber optic lines to a lot of the various switches above the ACC area, but the ACC unit itself has four actual bulbs mounted on the back side.

First diesel car ever was a 1926 Mercedes. It may have been a 170, but I think the 170's were later. I'm pretty sure though that the first diesel car was a Mercedes and it was a 1926. Saw it on the History Channel.
Thanks
David

You don't talk someone into a W140. You put someone in a W140 and let its silence do the talking.

The buttons of the ACC unit pop off so you can clean the bulbs and inside of the buttons.

"You don't talk someone into a W140. You put someone in a W140 and let its silence do the talking."

That is one true statement, my dad was really impressed by my friend's, dad's S600. He would never sell his truck for a car but maybe my mom will have one in the future. I'm thinking an S600 coupe. Maybe in a few years.

Thanks Sixto I'll try to pop the buttons out tomarrow.

ps did you win anything with your lottery tickets?
