300sd ACC to manual AC conversion
Hi, I'm looking to purchase my second Mercedes. A 1980 300sd with climate control problems. I also found a 1975 280S(w116) in a junk yard with manual heating and air conditioning controls. BIG QUESTION: It looks like I could swap the ACC set-up for the manual one (with quite a bit of work). Has anyone done this? The ACC has got to be the biggest headache with these cars...IMHO

How's my "Junk Yard Buddy" doing? I haven't been back to that yard since I saw you.
What's the problem with the Climate Control in the 300SD your looking at? I've picked up various modulators and push button controls at our "favorite place". Some will work, some won't. But the price is right. My 300CD now has a donor modulator, and my 300SD has a donor push button control, both keeping me smiling (and warm or cool, as the case may be). Ernie

I found a very clean 1980 300SD at a used car dealer with 300K on it. He said the AC was working earlier in the day (yea, sure it was). It has all the typical problems. Door locks not functioning, climate control problems, shifting delays, but I drove it and still liked it. It's a flying couch! One of "our favorite yards" has 2 euro spec w116's with manual heater and AC controls. What are the odds of that? It looks like the permanent ACC solution.

That sounds like a darn good idea! If you get the nerve up to do it, PLEASE document it with photos and a how-to for us!

i have the same dream a 126 with manual climate control manual transmission manual sunroof manual doors, windows AND fred flinstones feet poking through the rust free floor
oh did i mention that some talented soul converted it to a wagon!!

Yeah, and a manual transmission, manual sunroof, manual windows, manual seats, manual EVERYTHING! My kind of car. When I go to Europe I just drool over all the great manual everything MB's over there. Have a great day,
