Door Pillar Upholstery Question
The upholstery on my driver's door pillar is peeling away. (more collateral damage from a recent paint job). The material seems to be OK, no wear.
Can I just strip off the "cover" material and reapply the 3M spray contact cement? Any suggestions as to how to clean off the old and crusty cement prior to re-spraying the cement? OR is it really difficult to remove the old stuff and I should just start with new material (use the old one for a pattern)? Any other suggestions or ideas? Eric

I had to glue my 300SDL pillar cover. It can be done. This is how Mercedes does it. Using the old cover as a templete may be difficult. I'm certain, but could be wrong, that the cover will not come off in one piece. but you could get a rough template with the pieces. This is really not a tough job. Remove the old and glue on the new. It requires a little technique but its a easy place to learn.
When using 3M weatherstrip adhesive, I would recommend the spray type. "Super" adhesive not the standard. Follow the directions to the letter and it will stick for just about ever, if you don't it will release. Find a local shop that can provide the material or go to http://www.worlduph.com/default.html They can sell you the material by the yard. If you do 1 pillar you may want to do both there will be a difference between the old and new in color and fading. Dave
