Oil Cap 300DT

all the local part houses list two oil caps. One of them shows for the TD CD and the other for just the 300 turbo.

Which one do I need? I need a new one cause mine leaks bad.

As far as I know, there are just 2 kinds. The old kind (metal) is NLA, replaced by the new kind (plastic). I have heard that the new kind leaks less, but I have never used one, so I'm not sure. Same cap(s) fit every diesel MB I ever saw, and probably fit the gassers also. I would bet there is no real difference between the 2 caps your autoparts place has.

FYI, it is interchangeable with the fuel tank cap. So next time you hit the junkyards, you have two places to look.

Rick I tried this on my SDL and it didn't work? Must only be for the older models.

The oil filler cap from a VW TDI is installed on my 240D and dosen't leak a drop, and they only list for about $5 at dealer. I have the billet aluminum one for the VW from STANCO Machine on mine. This shop will be mfg an oil seperator in about a month that is for VW TDI's, but will also work on the 240D. And you ask how do I know that? Because I designed the oil seperator with that in mind.

That billet aluminum stuff is really cool.

coach, I just checked the EPC for oil caps and, as far as I can tell, they are the same. This thing isn't exactly easy to use. There were 4 different versions of the cap, but only the latest one is still available. However, it shows the gasket as being available separately and there are two different sizes.

Well that figures. Only the latest is still available but the parts houses list two. That way 50% of the folk will guess the one they need will be the one of the two no longer available. Which means they will have to go back to the store and reorder the other one.

Just reread what I typed. Damn even Im lost. If reading that that makes since to you, I know some prime farm land in the Sahar desert that is for sale:p

what is the part number for the most recent cap?

I put some heavy axle grease on the cap gasket and breather tube (It leaks too) and I have yet to have an oil slick down my valve cover.
