question for changing fuel filter
i recently changed my fuel and all 5 injectors in my 300D 78 and i was wondering if it was me or if its my fuel primer pump that has gone bad. When i changed them out..someone in this forum suggested that it would take about a good 100 pumps to pump all the air out of the system before i start hearing the "farting" sound from the pump..LOL. anyways i did this about 100 -150 times and it was still going smooth with no sound..i didnt even feel that much resistance when pump the primer pump. I start to notice that fuel was leaking out of the primer pump on the edges and had caught my attention every time i pushed and pulled the knob.
It took me about a good minute of constant cranking to get the sucker to start back up again..(yeah i know, more than 30secs is devestating to the starter).....but that was the only way i could get the sucker to start back up. is my primer pump gone bad...or is there something that i didnt do right?...also i did release the top bolt on the top of the fuel filter to bleed air though while i was pumping the primer out. but it was still hard to start the car.. your thoughts are appreciated allen |

Did you have the fuel lines loose at the injectors?

Muy,
It sounds like your primer pump is going bad. If it leaks fuel out, it can leak air in. BTW, you don't have to loosen anything to bleed the system. There is a hole in the top of the filter that bleeds any air out of the filter and the air goes out the fuel overflow in the IP. Before replacing, filling the can filter with fuel will make for less pumping of the primer pump. P E H Last edited by P.E.Haiges; 05-22-2004 at 07:23 PM. |

Had same problem with my hand pump, and replaced it with new upgaded model. Now it just takes a couple of pumps to do the job.
