Does your Air Filter hop around in the housing ??
Hey....
I constantly hear a noise coming from my engine. I think it is the actual filter hopping around in the housing. I just changed the air filter housing mounts so it is definitely good. Is there a solution to keeping the filter put so it does not jump in there ? Maybe the OEM filter is a different size ? The one that I have in there now is a BOSCH. Thanks

A BOSCH filter should not hump around, the first filter I bought was an American brand and was loose side ways. OEM filters are fitting tied around the metal scream.

I too learned that hard way. Fram filters just don't cut it for a Mercedes. I now put the pricey OEM ones in.

In my 83 SD, the air cleaner mounts were good but that t-bar the air cleaner mounts attach to was broken.

Hopefully I'm misunderstanding the problem but.......if it's that loose it isn't going to be filtering the air, the air is going to be leaking around it.

There are three inexpensive, easy to replace rubber mounts that attach the air cleaner assembly to the intake manifold. Over time, heat will ruin them. While you're at it, make sure that the rubber seal between the air cleaner and manifold is in good shape, if not replace it at the same time.
Good luck, |
