That's the one!

I plan on having the lift a tad bit more conservative. I now live about an hour from "300TD4x4". I PM'd him to get his file notes.

five-speed part number(s)

Do any of you know the part number or numbers of the five-speed manual transmission(s) which will install into a 300D?
I'm currently driving a Euro 300D with a manual four-speed, but I'm seriously considering replacing the trans with a five-speed.

I'd do something really, really bad for a 700r4 that'd bolt in. Pathetic, but hey, overdrive and a lockup converter..

I think that there was a version of the 700R4/4L60E/4L65E that was used in BMWs. It may have a removable 'bell housing' also. It is probably electronically controlled. I want to say someone sells an aftermarket controller. The physical size of the trans. may be a problem. Those guys over at pirate4x4 have probably built a margarita mixer from a 700r4 by now, ask them.

Yeah, and if that rabbit had a gun he'd choose electric motors on all four wheels powered by a diesel-generator setup....

Will these transmissions be the same series which came in these cars? I was thinking about transmission repairs in the future!

Yes, very intersting- I never got 33 mpg on the highway with my W123 nonturbo. Are you in imperial gallons=)? Do you drive 50 mph?
