As I understand it, you can expect the shut off valve lever to stay down for a while after shut off. It should pop up when you turn the key to run or start.

thats the problem. its not popping up when i turn the key but as soon as i disconnect the vacuum line it will start. that make me think its the valve on the ignition switch.

The valve on the ignition switch has a bleed function which, in the ON position, allows air to bleed into the shutoff valve.
If you reverse the vacuum connections to the valve, you will have vacuum leak problems, like my wife's car had when they replaced the ignition lock assy. The car wouldn't shift until redline. They reversed the vacuum hoses and it ran perfectly.

I'm just about to do this job, any hints would be appreciated! Did you remove the air assembly to make sure you could stop the engine? Or did you try the vaccuum check to see if the stop lever moved?
I know my ignition is fouled with oil fromt he leaking valve, does yours have this same issue? That could cause an electrical component to misbehave. Brake cleaner is the way to go according to the archives. |

the shifting is still a problem. im thinking its because i turned up the alda. i used the mitty vac to help me install it. i put the bracket on the vave then hooked the mittyvac up to it and when i felt it catch i squeezed the pump. it helped hold the valve in before i bolted it up. as far as seeing thr rack move it didnt when i tried after installing. but i know its in there correct because it shuts off the car.
