diesel purge on '96 E300D

Has anyone ever run diesel purge on a '96 E300D? I get confused with the bizillion hoses in and out of the filter, prefilter etc. I'm trying to figure out which lines to tap into so I can run some lubromolly to clean the injectors.

A picture would be awesome!!!

Thanks.

Not sure where your pre-filter is or what it looks like on a 96, but on my 87, it is a small clear plastic bulb with the fuel line connecting from the hose-in from the tank, and hose connecting the primary filter bolted on the engine.

I remove and plug the tank hose and connect a fuel supply type hose from a jar with a cup and a half of Power Service's cetain boost, injector lube and clean, (or you can use Redline too,) and run the engine until it is gone, then re-hook up the fuel supply hose from the tank again.

I do this about three times to really give it a good purge!

My prefilter is integrated in the same assembly as the main filter and I'm not sure I can get the plastic tube off it easily. Am I correct in assuming that the line feeding the pre-filter is coming directly from the tank?

The main filter has about 3 or 4 lines connected to it - must have something to do with the self-priming feature. But I have no idea what lines are what.

I'll take a picture tonight and see it anyone recognizes the hoses and what's going on.

Yes, there are several fuel lines intersecting the main filter. You want the one that is in-coming from the tank. There usually is an arrow pointing the direction of the flow.

There will be a rubber fuel supply hose coming up from under the fire wall, drivers side. Also, there will be a fuel return line right beside it. Follow the one that the arrow points going into the main filter, that's the one you want.

My suggestion is based on the arrangement my 87 300 DT is laid out, but I can't immagine there could be much difference!

Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong, I don't want to mis-lead here?

why?

What are you experiencing that makes you believe you need to do a diesel purge?

down & dirty

she feels a bit sluggish lately & more soot out the back when I give her the spores. So I just changed the fuel & air filters (it's been about a 9mo.) and thought it'd be a good idea to get the injectors cleaned out.

While tinkering I noticed a loose vac line from one of the resonance flaps on the cross-over pipe on the intake. I reconnected it and while I had the cross-over off, I noticed some minor build-up of soot, but nothing of measurable thickness.

I had been experiencing some engine surging/hunting/hesitating at certain RPM's under low-load cruise conditions. Stepping on the gas would bring the engine into a nice smooth cruise again. I hope the loose vac line will correct that.

Sounds like the vacuum hose has been off for a while and may have crudded up things. I would deffinately do a purge myself given what you describe.

Good luck, and let us know how you made out!

Oh, have you found the fuel-in hose?

You should do a search on th eEGR bypass for the 606 engine.

That mod combined with the CCV mod will ensure a totally clean intake after it has been cleaned properly.

I blocked off the little holes that ran into each intake runner from the CCV system by screwing in some stainless steel bolts for metal that I grabbed at Lowe's.

She's been a beaut ever-since. Not to mention with the manifold off and an Oatey copper pipe wire brush to clean out the intake manifold openings on the head :-)

Just a hint
