vogtland springs and pads

What is the length of the rear vogtland springs compared to stock coupe/sedans? How about wagons? What do most of you utilize for pads?

winmutt 03-19-2008 11:50 PM

I just ordered 3 nubs over the two that I had. These springs were clearly at a v8 or something as I have a slight negative rake. Compare to the AMG springs these have far fewer coils. I have considered putting coupe springs instead.

back and front have the same pads?

winmutt 03-20-2008 05:01 PM

3 rear 1 front. Your mileage may vary.

So with the tallest (3 nub=19mm) in the rear and the smallest in the front (1 nub=9.5mm) the front of your car is higher than the rear? I just bought a set of VSprings and may install them on the wagon. Are pads inter-changable between front and rear?

winmutt 03-20-2008 09:22 PM

Currently I have 2 in the rear and there is 1/2" or so rear rake. I believe the difference in affected height is 2x the incremental size.

Some overall feedback from you guys would be good so I can pass it along to Vogtland if/when they ever decide to press these again.. you still had negative rake running 2nubs rear/1 nub front??

I think this would be the place and thread to hear that feedback. So I'd presume I'd (and everyone) want 3 nubs rear and 1 nub front from the one feedback we have so far.

that's my plan

1 nub front 3 nub rear
I just recently got a spring compressor and I am waiting for pads and shocks (might as well do the shocks now too). I may be a few weeks before I can get this done and report.
With the stock shocks and springs I have a lot of body roll cornering, and when I step hard on the accelerator the front end rises and the back end squats much more than it should with a car of this limited power. (my daughter, calls it 'boating up')
From what others have said I am looking forward to a big improvement.:D

yea! springs and new shocks in PIX

Kudos first to "Rudolph Green" for the huge job of getting us the springs.
-and also esp. to "Winmutt" for the guidance as what spring pads were working for him. I am very happy with my results, but would have had to do it a number of times before I got the pads right if I hadn't been able to follow in his footsteps.
I am very happy with the springs! the whole car used to do this squat thing if you stepped on the accelerator hard, at or nearly stopped, the front end would rise and the back would drop (my daughter called it 'boating up', which is about as good a description as any). the handling is much better waaaay less body roll. The pads that I took out were 4 pips front and 1 pip back. I put in new pads, 1 pip front and 3 pips back, and Bilstein comfort shocks.
Hoping these pix load right...

How are the comforts? I am considering shaving the 1nub in the front. Still just a bit or rear rake unloaded.

MTUpower 04-10-2008 07:45 PM

Nice yellow coupe! I may take the plunge soon and change the front brakes to the 560SEL (rotors and calipers) change the bearings, shocks to comforts, all while putting in the vogtlands both front and back if I can find the stock rear spring specs and see how they compare to the wagon rear springs. I've got alot to do before may 16 when I make the coastal voyage.

Yah, no wonder mine was so up in the air I had 4 nub pads on the front, and 1 nub on the rear... maybe the rears had sagged since new.
Have you scraped on anything? I haven't, but you have had yours on longer.
