W210 stuck on the side of the road

Yesterday drove the 1996 E300 diesel 350 miles with no problem. Then it stated to loose power and eventually died. Replaced the fuel filter. Air filter. One can of Seafoam in the fuel take. And it started and ran for a couple of miles and sputtered and died. Got it to start and it made it to a gas station where I topped off the tank and it drove another mile and died again.
One hour later it started a drove 100 yards and died.
Got hotel room and now will try again.
This problem happened to my wife a couple of weeks ago. Car died after a trip out of town 100 yards from home. I replaced the duel filter and it ran fine. The pre filter had a little stuff in the bottom that I blew out but it was very little like 4 mm.
K40 has been suggested, what do you think?
Thank you in advance for helping
