86 300E starts and stalls
I want to buy an 86 300E, but need to know what is wrong with the car first. The guy selling it is telling me it starts, and stalls. It seems as though it could be a fuel delivery problem, but it is getting fuel. Any ideas? Im checking the car out tonight. I talked the guy down to 2,000 over the phone. Is that a good deal? He claimed that it is a clean car in and out. I will find that out tonight.
BTW, parts are not that big of a deal, and I will be doing my own work. Help is greatly appreciated. |

hey ed
it could be the fuel pump relay (located in back of the battery, cost about $125) or it could be the air flow sensor (cost about $450-600 + labor). these would be my 2 logical guesses since i have not seen the car. let me know what happens. andy |

You can get an air flow sensor for about $300, and it's a five-minute DIY. Also check OVP fuse.

hey g-benz
where can you buy the air flow sensor for about $300? i'd love to keep one in stock at that price. as far as in a 5 minute DIY, i would have to disagree with you on that, becuz i just replaced mine, and it took me about 45-50 minutes, and i thought that was pretty fast. we might be talking about 2 different things. i am talking about the unit underneath the fuel distributor. if you are too, then you are awesome. andy |
