Mike, does your wheel tilt/telescope? My 1991 300TE is definitely a W124, but I still have a manual driver's side mirror adjustment. The only time I touched cupholder to turn signal was during a sweeping exit ramp when I pushed the lever forward to get high beams. I think the thing is great. If I were to order the Griot's units, I'd be a lot more stressed over placement, as well as drilling four screws into my door skins.... Thanks for the tip. Best $5 I've spent in a long long time

Hmm-m-m

Robert I went back and looked at the pictures - and you can see that there is 4 inches of room for the high beam to move - in fact the stalk is shorter and would never hit it.

Yes I have a tilt-tele wheel - but it just comes out by a motor at a fixed angle - sort of "the closer it gets the higher it gets" arrangement...strange but it works. Too many motors in this vehicle but as long as they work I don't care.

So, a W124 can be somewhat different from year to year I guess. But it works and that is what counts. I was looking at the pictures again and you know...this is one cup holder that looks like it belongs in an MBZ!

Mike, that's bizarre. I guess not all 124's are created equal(ly?)... I just checked, and with my high beams on and a right turn signalled, the turn signal lever definitely contacts the cupholder. I could move it to the left a bit, I guess... I can post pics if you want me to, thanks, Bob

Just a couple points for a follow up...
My local Target seems to have discontinued these cupholders.
I bought the Allentown PA's stores last one for <$2.
(Purchased more for a fellow board member than for me... I have two that never got installed. Will sell one or both maybe, just be aware that shipping might be more than the cupholder costs! e-mail me if interested...)
The horizontal vanes on my vent are slightly bent.
It will block ventilation if there's a drink or a cell phone in there.
It will keep the vents pointing in a fixed direction, at least up-down.
I finally found my telescoping wheel switch!
It helps clearances a bit to telescope it out towards me a bit, but not too much. (I'm a big guy.)

After months of thinking, I have come down to thinking of a solution for cupholders. It takes a few hours of creativity and dedication.

My parents used to have a subary legacy. The older versions of that car have the push in a little bit and slide out cup holder. If you could find a holder that has 2 drink holders inline instead of sideways, you could take the arm rest and open it up, put a rail in there along with the entire setup and then finish it off by cutting the mbtex along the seam and just folding it up a little.

This could be an option to this problem. I havent attempted it yet but I have my eye out for a cupholder like that. It would most likely have to come from a different manufacturer. Also, I have yet to find an arm rest and open it up to check inside but I wouldnt think that a rail would be hard to mount.

I bought one of these on Suganami's recommendation and it works and looks good. He sent me some photos to look at that convinced me to buy one. Now that its installed, I thing I'll buy a couple more. It shows a way to install it on both a horizontal and includes an added piece to facilitate installation on a somewhat irregular surface, too.

The only downside is that you screw through the leather if you do a door mount. Man, I hated doing that! But I like the placement, just below the door latch. That way if some knucklehead (uh, me!) tried to open the door with a drink in the holder, he couldn't reach the handle without removing the drink. That would prevent a probable spill.

I have a way of using a 1995 through 1999 Buick and Cadillac folding cupholder that folds up into the W124 "storage" type of armrest.

I got the idea from another forum member, and thanks go to him but no matter how much I search for that original post I can't find it to give him credit.

Anyways, it works like this video I put on Youtube below..* I can provide more details if this appeals to you guys.* Some people won't like its location, etc...but that's all up to the individual.*

There's another video from someone else I saw of a mod too, but your armrest would have to be up.
