Saw a nice SL for sale in Atlanta...

I don't know the person selling it, but I stopped to look, met the owner, and here's the info I got:

1976, white with red leather interior. Paint looked good, body pretty smooth, only rust I saw was along the edge of the trunk lid, but I did not get under, or inspect very thoroghly. The seats looked great, dash OK, carpet a little worn. Had the hardtop on it, looked good, owner says the convertible top is new and is fine. I didn't verify that.

The mileage says 171,874. Owner says engine was rebuilt approx. 50,000 miles ago. This is where it gets a little strange...he says the engine is actually a 450, so I don't know if the badge on the trunk is wrong, or if the engine is wrong. ??? Either way, he started it, and it started quickly and ran very smoothly. I pumped the pedal a litte, sounded nice, but did not drive it. Tires looked good. Owner says he has extra tires as well. New battery, new-ish alternator, new looking exhaust. Owner says he has $30,000 dollars worth of receipts dating back to '95, and he showed me a pretty thick folder, but I didn't have time to inspect the records. AC seemed to work fine, which is unusual, and usually a good sign, I guess...

I saw some non-stock items, such as a 3rd brake light on the trunk, chrome AMG wheels (they're nice, though...with star caps in the middle), Alpine stereo with CD changer in trunk, and unfortunately (to my taste, anyway) it has the chrome fender trim.

It's a very good-looking car overall. Owner's name is Robert Miller, 404 597 5990. He says he's asking $13,500 or best offer, which sounds a little high to me, but he acted like he needs some cash, so a much lower offer might be possible, I don't know. Wish I had some cash to offer.

I thought I'd post the info here, in case anyone's interested in checking it out further.

Mike

What was the badge on the trunk

You mentioned that the engine was actually a 450 which is appropriate for a US spec 1976 SL. If it is actually a 500, I would be interested in talking to him.
