Ive just fitted a new chip from www.superchips.co.uk to my '97 E300Turbodiesl and the results are fantastic. Now I want to upgrade my wheels/tyres/brakes to keep her on the road. Anyone got recommendations??

Depends, do you want a staggered setup or do you want a standard setup with the same size tires at all 4 corners.

It also depends on do you want 17" or 18" wheels. Do you want factory AMG or specific tuner wheels like Brabus, RennTECH (made by O.Z.) Lorinser, Carlsson, etc.

My favorite option are either the BBS RXII or RSII in 18x8.5 up front with 235/40/18 and 18x10 in the rear wearing 265/35/18. You can push the front and put 245/40/18 and the rears using 275/35/18, in which I would get the fenders rolled in either case.

Second options, and much cheaper are a set of E430 Sport (17x7.5 wheels) wearing 235/45/17 at all 4. They are on ebay, and bidding starts at $750. However, I would email and ask for pictures and exactly how much the reserve price is.

Third Option, and a nice one too are a set of 18x8 AMG Monoblocks. No tires, but I would put 235/40/18 or 245/35/18 on them. Reserve is already met, and the price is $660. I would email just to make sure especially since the user has switched names, and now has the little sunglass mark next to him. Like all auctions, be smart.

Seeing that you live in Ireland I don't know how the weather typically is. However, I would suggest if you have snow often, then get dedicated snow tire on your stock wheels, and buy Dunlop SP Sport 9000 as your tires for your upgrades. Their offer incredible wet traction and many people here will also recommend Michelins, in this case go with the Pilot Sports.

Thanks for your comprehensive reply. Currently running standard MB Avantgarde 16" rims with Continental 215-55 tyres. Like the look of the AMG 17" and 18" monoblocks. Can they be sourced outside MB? Don't think ebay would work for me in Ireland. Looked at a brake upgrade kit at www.brembo.com but at $3300 it's too much. Think I'll go for OE Brembo discs and ATE pads. I reckon I've got the same performance now as the 320CDI (drove one a few weeks ago-wicked). Do you know the standard wheel/tyre/brake setup on that? Also running Castrol Magnatec oil which I'm convinced made a difference to throttle and turbo response. Also using K&N air filter. Going to fit K&N oil filter. Anything else I should be thinking about??

Eddie,

Since you're doing all this work, you may want to consider a suspension upgrade to E55 specs. Here's a link to another thread on this forum. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=255

If you've got money leftover, try some Nitrous Oxide at http://www.nossystems.com

Glad to see somebody else enjoying his E300.

I've never heard of Nitros in a diesel, any oil heads ever tried that?
