Hi all,
I have been reading these forums for a while now and have to say that this is one of the most informative forums i have come across! After waiting for 6 months, I finally recieved word that my '01 E55 is finally on the boat and expected to arrive at the port in Maryland on Dec. 21st!! It is fully loaded with Parktronic, climate seats, COMAND, CD, and Phone. I am already planning to do mods to it. I was wondering if any E55 owners on this board has done any mods on their beast to make it faster besides chipping the car? Also, the ride height on the US E55's are still a little too high for my tastes. Has anyone here lowered their E55's or plan to? i have heard that you could change the springs to H&R's or one could just change the spring pads so that it would not affect the ride quality? Which method would you guys recommend? Thats all for now. I will keep you all posted about the status of my E55. My salesman tells me that i may be able to pick her up on Jan 2nd or hopefully even sooner! Fingers crossed! Will post many pics when I get her. It would be great if E55 owners on this board could post pics of their E55 as well. Im sure all of you know what its like to wait for your AMG's. The pics would make things a lot easier for me!! TIA!! Thanks again for such an awesome board! MB rocks! Ryan |

E55
I would recommend a K&N air filter (cheap 3%HP gain), wider tires. such as the Nitto 555 285/35ZR18 for the back and Nitto 555 255/40/18 on the front. That will help you hold on for those 5 second 0-60 runs. They will still work with your stock rims.
To me the 2.82 axle is for big top speed, which is cool in Germany, but can ruin your insurance bill here. I bet that if you changed that rear end to something like a 3.11 or so, you would be as fast as anything out there. Those slightly beefier tires would help then. I am no mercedes expert, but I have test driven that car at Mercedes of Oakland and it is perfect. I don't think I would change a thing due to resale value, etc. You are one lucky guy to get that car! It is a real runner and the best looking car out there, or one of them. |

Congrate on ur new car! I m sure u ll enjoy it a lot! I 2 had great plan 4 my 55 before it arrived but then decided not to go 4 them cause there are really no place here in Van to run! Besides almost any modification ll void the warranty so I decided to wait a bit. So do keep us posted of ur progress.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I will definitely look into them!
ET, what year and color is your E55? How do you like it? Any problems? It would also be great to hear some "road kills" with the AMG. After all, it is THE fastest automatic sedan on the market now! Happy Motoring! PS: Would yo umind posting your pic again? I did not show up. Thanks! |

An Extreme case of Need For Speed in a BENZ
Well I was reading one of those European tuners magazines. They had a CLK 55, RennTeched to a 6.0, and added a Lorinser SuperCharger. Had RennTech suspension upgrades, and was clocked 0-60 in under 4 secs!!! It had 285/30/18 in the rear, 255/40/18 up front, and the body work was flared real nicely witha RennTech kit. I thin the total bill came to something like $300k, but its was still a 4-person hauler with 0-60s in the 3s and 1/4s barely under 10 secs. Check it out at the stand

Congrats on your purchase. I waited four months for mine, but it was worth it. Now I have about 10K miles on the clock, and it's much faster than it was last year. The car is FAST from the factory, I found the ride height and ride quality perfect. Lowering the car might cause some scraping on driveways...The tires (michelin pilot sport) from the factory are EXCELLENT and I find the size set up just right. As you get some seat time in, just dial in the right tire pressures for your driving style. I'm running 38F/36R. No mods to mine yet, but when the warantee is up I'm thinking supercharger....

Zrusny,
First of all, great website! A lot of good info on the E55. I see that you track your AMG as well. Have you G-Teched it recently to see how fast your 0-60 and 1/4 miles are? Anything close to MT and R&T's claims of 4.8-5.0 sec 0-60's? Also, I am interested in bringing my car to the track against my cousins '00 Avus blue M5, after it is broken in of course.. hehe.... Any suggestions on how to get better times? It's time to show those M people who's really the boss! If you supercharge the AMG, you'd be practically untouchable! Keep us updated! Cheers! Ryan |

Hi guys, sorry 4 the late reply. Like Gary, I absolutely love my car. Mine is a yr 00 silver on black. So far there is nothing seriously wrong (There were a brake sensor defect though). Recently I am whining about the driving style learning thing and my mechanic is ordering some part from factory to change that.
Have fun on the track guys!! Et |
