for those of you complainig about tire milage. you should know that "your milage will vary" as the saying goes.

how you drive, where you drive, and how the car is maintained are the biggest factors affecting tire life.

you drive like my 16 year old little brother, your tires are not going to last. period. doesnt matter what milage warranty (a gimmick to make you buy tires!) they have.
you drive mostly on city streets vs freeways, same thing.

same for those of you who live in hilly areas or canyon ares, or who have thier car loaded at all times.
same for if you dont check you air pressure or do your maintenance (tire rotation et al)

conversely, if you drive like a grandma and mostly on the freeway, your tires will last you longer.

also, you cant compare the michelin pilot sport and MXV4. apples to oranges.
the pilot sport is an all out high performace tire. the MXV4 is a luxury touring tire. high perfomance tires are optimised for performance; with noise, durability, comfort and so on compromised for grip.
touring tires are deisgned to perform better than standard (think minivan, ford escort etc) tires, but not like high performance tires. they are usually quieter than high performance tires, last longer and yield better fuel economy. not much though. apples, and oranges. just like a 300E and corvette are not in the same class.

Seems there is a bad rap going around about Michelin quality vs cost. I feel obliged to defend them based on my own experience! There are so many brands out there, knowing what to trust is difficult. I've trusted my Pilot Sports to carry a rather heavy sedan at ridiculous speeds (155mph) for the past four years, without problems. If cost is an issue, Michelins may be too pricey. If your life is an issue, what cost?

BTW, I'm pickup up a new set of Pilot Sports this afternoon.

yes, i echo need to speed on this one.

better tires will be quieter, smoother riding, handle well, evacuate water well and all that for longer into thier life than cheaper tires.
the bridgestone turanzas are good tires, but will start to get noisier, rougher, deteriorating handling and so on, earlier in thier life than the MXV4s

I'm done with Michelins. I've been a loyal customer of theirs for a long time. I've read all the reviews about how bad Conti's and Michelins have gotten. And after my last set lasted me only 23K. We'll I made the leap just recently to Yokohama Avid H4's. Wow, at $60 a piece via the internet. Quite, smooth ride, handle great. I'll never go back to over priced Michelins. Although I do feel like a trader sometimes.

I have the Avid H4S on my Legend and they wore out completely at 12,000 miles. I had the car aligned 3 times, tires were rotated and tire pressure was being monitored. They are a very nice tire and I like them, except that they didn't last long enough for me, considering that they have a 60,000 mile treadwear guarantee.

I just put the Michelin MXV4 S8 tires on my coupe and so far I love them. Let's see how they do in the long haul.

Well, these are relatively new on my car. Only about 4K miles, so I hope I get better wear than that. We'll see.
