ASR - it works!!
Wow, it's been cold and icy here in the West Sound (31F at the moment) and roads are covered with either frost or ice (and in shady areas, both!). We live on the edge of the water and the terrain is quite hilly (and the hills are steep).
Had to vacate the house for a real estate showing so took the 500 out on the streets. Nice front end slide making the first left onto the 'highway' (what constitues a highway here anyway). Whoa.. then got on the gas, car skitted about 1/2 foot right, yellow warning indicator came on and the car collected itself and scooted down the road. Oh.. how that could have been bad if I'd been ham-footing it and without the ASR. So then I see just how well it works. On the straight on some frost and ice I mash on the pedal. Car jerks breifly, light comes one and viola.. I just move down the road like it's nobody's business, sure footed as could be, ice be damned! Pretty neat system. It kicked on all by itself a few more times on the way to Starbucks. Sure was nice of MBZ to install that system on the car. Otherwise I might have ended up in the water, or into the hillside trying to get over the ridge and into 'town'. Maybe I should look into a spare set of wheels to toss some studded tires on until the temps warm up again. Or maybe I should just enjoy the sliding around for a while.
